Artist Statement
My goal is to capture the wonder and awe of our planet, particularly the American West and bring light and joy to your home. Art should be beautiful, simple, and stir the soul. Using oil paint and a palette knife, I distill shapes and colors to their essence, creating tactile, impasto strokes that enhance the impression of the moment. I focus on capturing mood and atmosphere, leaving out distracting details to convey the larger feeling. Inspired by the way light and color speak through nature, I seek to master that same language in my art.

Who is Micah Henrie?
Micah Henrie was born in Utah and grew up in the San Francisco area. The son of a painter and builder, Micah was exposed early to the arts and the joy of de-blanking a canvas. He studied Illustration and Computer Science at Brigham Young University where he received his BFA in 2001.
Micah’s career as a professional artist began in 2000 as a Computer Graphics Artist, working on such films as Narnia, Ring 2, Charlotte’s Web and all 5 of LAIKA’s stop motion animated films to date including Coraline and ParaNorman and the in-production Wildwood. All 5 of LAIKA’s films were nominated for the Academy Award® for Outstanding Animated Feature and have earned many other high honors.
It has always been important to Micah to not live entirely in the digital world–he has remained grounded through exploration in furniture making, cabinetry, and especially oil painting. A return to the tactile has become increasingly important in a world of Generative AI and Deep Fakes. He now seeks solace in the deeply analog practice of impasto application of thickly textured oil paint on wood panel.
Micah currently lives in Southern Utah, just a short distance from some of the most amazing locations on the planet, and often takes inspiration from them. Some of his favorite muses include Zion National Park, Escalante Grand Staircase, Lake Powell, Grand Canyon Nation Park, and countless wandered paths.
